Lexus, Toyota and Honda Among Top 10 Reliable Cars
December 16, 2015
Consumer Reports has recently released its 2015 Annual Auto Survey. And Choisser Import Auto Services is happy to report that the car makes we specialize in, namely Lexus, Toyota, and Honda, were listed in the top 10 most reliable cars. This may seem like bad news for the business, since we do repair these cars for a living. But we don’t see it that way. It’s great to be able to work on a well-built car, and we are also happy to help you maintain your Lexus, Toyota or Honda. Without maintenance, even the most reliable car will start having problems. Below are some of the findings from the Consumer Reports’ 2015 Annual Auto Survey.
Most Reliable Cars
Lexus and Toyota once again are the top two most reliable cars, with Lexus NX and Toyota Prius C reported as the best models. In the top five we also have Audi, Mazda and Subaru. Honda is #8 and actually went down four points since last year.
One of the purposes of the Consumer Reports Survey is to predict how many problems different makes and models can be expected to have when purchased new. This would be a great insight to have when shopping for a new car, because one of the reasons you are buying new is probably to avoid paying for issues and repairs. The survey measured expected performance of numerous new vehicles and how likely they are to have issues compared to past years. Here are some of the notable results.
In the luxury compact car category, it looks like the Lexus CT 200h and Lexus IS have improved significantly and are the top two models expected to perform 50% or more above average. In the luxury large car department Lexus doesn’t have any serious competitors either. The Lexus GS and Lexus LS take the top two spots, rated over 50% more reliable than average. The Lexus GX is the most reliable midsized luxury SUV and Lexus NX takes the second place among luxury compact SUVs. And, finally, the Lexus ES takes the top position in the luxury midsized car category.
In the hybrid/electric cars category, the Toyota Prius C is the #1 most improved model that is now 85% better than average vehicles in that group. The Toyota Prius is a close second, followed by the Lexus CT 200h and Toyota Prius V, all showing significant improvements in reliability.
Among compact cars, the Toyota Corolla is #2, with the Subaru Impreza less that 10% ahead. In midsized and large car categories, Toyota is once again in the lead with the Toyota Camry and Toyota Avalon in first places respectively. The Honda Accord is #2 most improved vehicle among midsized cars.
The Toyota RAV4 closely follows Kia Sportage in the small SUVs category just like the Toyota 4Runner is only a few points behind the Kia Sorento in the midsized SUV group. When it comes to large SUVs, the Toyota Sequoia takes the first place and leaves Ford Expedition behind.
Least Reliable Cars
Just as it’s important to know which car to buy, it’s crucial to know which ones to avoid. Consumer Reports readers complained about these five new vehicles the most: Fiat 500L, Ford Fiesta, Cadillac Escalade, Jeep Cherokee and Chevrolet Corvette. The problems range from a transmission that won’t go into gear to fuel pump failure and car electronics issues.
