Getting to Know Your Honda Oil Filter
December 3, 2018
Though a good deal can save you a little money today, if you’re not getting a quality product, then you’ll probably end up losing money down the line. Today we’re going to talk a little about oil filters, what they’re for, why quality matters, and what to look for if you have a Honda. Let’s take a look.
What is an Oil Filter?
An oil filter is a component of your vehicle that filters dirt and particles out of your oil before it gets to the engine. Though the particles within oil are small, they can still cause wear and tear to your engine over time. After all, the engine is a delicate machine and if it’s not lubricated properly, then it can overheat and become seriously damaged. Oil functions at its best when it is clean.
Why Use a Quality Oil Filter in Your Vehicle?
Whether you’re buying tires, toothbrushes, or anything in between, quality products are always worth the investment. A quality oil filter will function more efficiently and it won’t need to be replaced as often as cheaper equivalents. Sometimes, it may seem easy to buy products online from alternative retailers to save a little money, but here’s the thing. If the product doesn’t work effectively, then you’re not actually saving money. You’re better off buying the right product the first time.
What’s the Deal with Honda Oil Filters?
Just as an example of what we’re talking about with these filters, we have a little comparison for you. The filter on the right came from the Honda factory and the one on the left was purchased aftermarket. Now, there are some easy-to-spot differences that can help you figure out which kind you have. The Honda filter has the logo on it along with some information whereas the other filter is blank.
Additionally, you can see that the holes on the Honda oil filter are much larger than the aftermarket component. Not only that, but there are only 8 holes on the aftermarket products and 10 on the Honda one. Though they may seem similar, looks can be deceiving. Aftermarket products are almost never up to par with the factory’s originals.
